Anti-Aging Cream Review: Facial Moisturizers

Billions of dollars of facial moisturizing products are sold each year to age-conscious consumers. In general, what a moisturizer will do is soothe the skin and keep it hydrated, and most of the products you can buy will do a good job of it. However, when the products start claiming to get rid of wrinkles and penetrate down into several layers of the skin, it’s time to stop and take another look. Most of these claims are phony, and you could end up paying a lot of money for a product that won’t even work.

What an anti-aging cream review will tell you is that the only thing about a moisturizer that might be considered “anti-aging” is the sunscreen, if it has one in it at all.  Since exposure to the sun does the most damage to your skin, it just makes sense that using a sunscreen will keep it looking younger. Couple that with a moisturizer, and you’ve probably got a winning combination as far as a face cream goes. Even if your moisturizer doesn’t have a sunscreen in it, use a separate one at all times in order to protect your skin from sun damage.

Moisturizers and all anti-aging creams are cosmetics. If they had any medicinal qualities, any properties that actually would heal, they would be classified as drugs and regulated by the government. That in itself tells you a lot about how moisturizers are viewed by those in the medical field. Moisturizers are topical at best. They can plump up the tissues in your face and make your wrinkles less apparent, but they cannot make them go away. The benefits of moisturizing anti-aging creams are only temporary which means that you need to apply them again and again. This is very different from Botox treatments or wrinkle-filling injections which will last for several months.

Of course, facial moisturizers are also much less expensive than medical treatments. There is little evidence to support high-end creams as being any better for your face than the discount store brands. One doctor has even been quoted as having said that pure lard would work just as well to moisturize your face if you wanted to use it. Of course, most of us would prefer to have a cream that is made of something other than hog fat. The creams you can buy may have different scents and textures, but as far as the moisturizing principles are concerned, they are all pretty much alike.

Keep this in mind the next time you go out to shop for a moisturizer. You’ll undoubtedly find an anti-aging cream review or two that will advise you to purchase costly preparations, because that’s what the websites are trying to sell. However, if you go with the latest information, don’t waste your money on expensive facial moisturizers. Every moisturizer on the market will plump and hydrate, so save your cosmetic dollars for the products that are going to show.  And never believe all of the phony claims you read about moisturizers. They aren’t going to eradicate wrinkles, and you’re never going to look 20 again.
