There are very few older Americans who wouldn’t love to find a miracle cure for aging all packed neatly inside a little jar. Think about it. Wouldn’t you love to open a jar, rub the cream that’s inside on your face, and immediately look like you did in your teens and twenties? You know, there are a lot of preparations for sale today that claim to have effects like this, but do they really work? Is it possible to find an anti-aging cream that will restore the young, healthy glow to your face and remove the wrinkles and blemishes added by time? Read on to see what the experts have to say.
Collagen is the ingredient in our skin that gives it structure. As long as our natural collagen levels stay high, our skin stays firm and young-looking. However, when the collagen levels start to decrease as we get older, the support system breaks down, and we see wrinkles begin to form. Some people have resorted to having injections of substances that fill in wrinkles, giving the skin support again. However, this solution is temporary at best. Other researchers believe that people can add collagen to their skin using certain topical preparations.
Based on their research, cosmetic companies started looking to develop products that could be applied to facial skin in order to stimulate collagen production. They eventually marketed products that claimed to increase the production of collagen and produce younger, firmer-looking skin in 4-12 weeks. This type of anti-aging cream is filled with vitamins and herbs, and it definitely isn’t going to harm your skin, but will it really work? The companies that make these creams say they work even though you have to remember that they are just cosmetics and there is nothing medicinal about them. People who have used them claim to be happy with the results. However, there have been no medical studies conducted on them, and there is no conclusive proof that they do work.
Another cream that has been introduced is meant to mimic the results of both wrinkle-filling injections and Botox. Botox works by destroying protein that makes muscles tense and allows wrinkles to form. Once that happens, the wrinkle seems to have disappeared. The cream, on the other hand, blocks protein from connecting with the cell and stimulates the development of collagen. Users do notice a difference from using this cream, but since it, once again, isn’t a medical procedure but merely a cosmetic, the results aren’t nearly as dramatic.
Even though the jury is still out on anti-aging creams, thousands of people are still willing to give them a try. After all, you can buy an anti-aging cream for under $20. If you opt for Botox instead, each injection is going to cost you around $400, and the treatment must be repeated every 4-6 months. Having injections to fill wrinkles will cost you at least $500 per line, and they aren’t permanent, either. It’s no wonder people are giving the less-expensive creams a try, and many claim that they see positive results. So will an anti-aging cream work? You’ll have to give a try to see for yourself.
